In Part One we took a look at Black Panther and his cards. In this part we are going to take a deck for each aspect through the gauntlet of scenarios on Expert difficulty and see how we get on.
The scenarios we are playing are as follows:
- Rhino (Bomb Scare)
- Klaw (Masters of Evil)
- Ultron (Under Attack)
- Mutagen Formula (Goblin Gimmicks)
If we beat a scenario, we’ll move onto the next one. If we lose to a scenario, we will try that one again until we either beat it or lose three times. The first aspect that we are going to use is Leadership!
Scenario | Module | Results | Rounds |
---|---|---|---|
Rhino | Bomb Scare | WIN | 8 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | WIN | 8 |
Ultron | Under Attack | WIN | 8 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | LOSS | 4 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | WIN | 9 |
Surprise, surprise, Leadership was good! This was nearly a perfect run, with only a slight wobble against Mutagen Formula.
Not really much insight to offer here other than Leadership is good and it works well with Black Panther! Helpful, I know.
Scenario | Module | Results | Rounds |
---|---|---|---|
Rhino | Bomb Scare | WIN | 7 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | LOSS | 4 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | LOSS | 4 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | LOSS | 8 |
Ultron | Under Attack | WIN | 11 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | WIN | 11 |
Klaw was a thorn in my side, he just kept on scheming! Until the Hulk pack and the excellent Aggression cards it brings, this aspect is still going to struggle a little bit when it comes to removing threat.
Mean Swing worked out okay at two copies. Hall of Heroes was excellent in the Ultron and Mutagen Formula scenarios.
I think that Aggression is very good with Black Panther and will only get better with the next hero pack.
Scenario | Module | Results | Rounds |
---|---|---|---|
Rhino | Bomb Scare | WIN | 10 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | LOSS | 3 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | WIN | 11 |
Ultron | Under Attack | LOSS | 4 |
Ultron | Under Attack | LOSS | 10 |
Ultron | Under Attack | LOSS | 8 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | LOSS | 1 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | WIN | 7 |
So I went for more of a defence build and if I’m honest I hated it. Yeah, you don’t generally lose to damage, but threat is still a big issue. I can’t see myself going for another defence build in this article series. Instead, I will stick to ally-spam (with Med Team to keep them in play) as it seems to be the only reliable way to deal with threat.
My only surprise in this run was beating Mutagen Formula in 7 rounds (it was my second attempt, as on the previous one I was battered by three Goblin attacks on the first round).
Scenario | Module | Results | Rounds |
---|---|---|---|
Rhino | Bomb Scare | WIN | 6 |
Klaw | Masters of Evil | WIN | 12 |
Ultron | Under Attack | WIN | 14 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | LOSS | 3 |
Mutagen Formula | Goblin Gimmicks | WIN | 9 |
This was another very smooth run, only tarnished by a defeat versus Mutagen Formula (which can be a very rough scenario depending on your intitial encounter cards).
Followed was a helpful card for a nice bit of a damage boost. Interrogation Room put in a lot of work, particularly in the Ultron and Mutagen Formula scenarios. Using Concussive Blow just before flipping back to Alter Ego was really good.
Justice was great with Black Panther. Combined with his upgrades, it felt like I was in complete control of the state of play.
Rank | Aspect | Wins | Losses |
---|---|---|---|
1st | Justice | 4 | 1 |
Leadership | 4 | 1 | |
3rd | Aggression | 3 | 3 |
4th | Protection | 3 | 5 |
Justice and Leadership were his best aspects, no real shock there! Aggression and Protection managed to beat three of the four scenarios I was facing, so that’s not too bad.
Rank | Scenario | Wins | Losses |
---|---|---|---|
1st | Rhino | 4 | 0 |
2nd | Mutagen Formula | 4 | 3 |
3rd | Ultron | 3 | 3 |
4th | Klaw | 3 | 4 |
Clean record against Rhino and Klaw was also the toughest villain to beat again! Klaw is just a bit too schemey.
Here is my Character Focus league table so far.
Character Focus League Table | Overall | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
Rank | Character | Best Aspect | Wins | Losses |
1st | Captain Marvel | Justice | 16 | 9 |
2nd | Black Panther | Justice | 14 | 10 |
3rd | Spider-Man | Leadership | 14 | 11 |
4th | Iron Man | Aggression | 13 | 14 |
5th | She-Hulk | Leadership | 12 | 19 |
So Black Panther entered the table in second place; quite respectable! Justice and Leadership has the same records for him, but I think that Justice just worked out better.
And here’s my table for character & aspect combo results so far:
Record (W/L) | Character & Aspect |
---|---|
4-0 | Spider-Man (Leadership) |
4-1 | Black Panther (Justice), Black Panther (Leadership) |
4-2 | Captain Marvel (Justice), Captain Marvel (Leadership), Captain Marvel (Protection), Iron Man (Aggression), She-Hulk (Leadership) |
4-3 | Captain Marvel (Aggression), She-Hulk (Aggression), Spider-Man (Aggression) |
3-3 | Black Panther (Aggression), Iron Man (Justice), Spider-Man (Justice) |
3-4 | Iron Man (Leadership) |
3-5 | Black Panther (Protection), Iron Man (Protection), Spider-Man (Protection) |
2-6 | She-Hulk (Protection) |
2-8 | She-Hulk (Justice) |
After playing 24 games with Black Panther I have to say that I really quite like the character and his hero cards. He’s very flexible and is able to deal with most situations.
That’s all the core set characters covered now, time to move on to the first hero pack, Captain America! Will he dethrone Captain Marvel from the top of my league table? How many 4-0 aspect runs will he get? I’m fairly confident that he’ll do well, but we’ll see. Anyway, that’s all for now!
Cheers,
Tim
